John Cartwright, Partner
In 1993 Mr Cartwright was admitted as a Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland and commenced full time employment with Power & Cartwright. He was later admitted as a Solicitor and in 1997 became a Partner of the firm. Much of his work now involves Estates, Property and Commercial Law and he has practiced extensively in the areas of Tourism and Hospitality and in particular in the Motel Industry dealing with both freehold properties and leasehold businesses.
Terry Kitchin, Partner
Mr Kitchin graduated from the University of Queensland in 1978 and was admitted as a Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland the same year. He practiced as a Barrister in the Public Defender’s Officer in Brisbane, as a State Prosecutor in Papua New Guinea and in private practice at Toowoomba before a change of direction saw him admitted as a Solicitor in 1983. He was a partner in a North Queensland firm of Solicitors from 1988 to 1991 before relocating to Gympie. Mr Kitchin has gained extensive experience in conveyancing, commercial property, wills and estates and associated litigation matters. Mr Kitchin is a past President of the Gympie District Gold Rush Committee, Gympie & District Chamber of Commerce and the Gympie South Lions Club.
Lesley Swift, Solicitor
Lesley Swift was born and raised in Gympie her forbears arriving in Gympie from Scotland in about 1867 very shortly after James Nash. Matthew Ferguson her Great Grandfather was an engine driver for several gold mines in the Gympie area. He was a close friend and work colleague of Andrew Fisher later Federal Member for Wide Bay and then becoming Australia’s first Labor Prime Minister. Andrew Fisher was also an engine driver working at the Gympie Gold mines for several years. Lesley spent 32 years in the Queensland Police Service including, from 1989 working at the Legal Services Branch at Police Headquarters in Brisbane. She served as a Police Prosecutor on and off for 17 years. During that time she was the Brisbane Coroners Assistant for 31/2 years assisting the Coroner and conducting all inquests held in the Brisbane Coroners Jurisdiction. Lesley also spent a year as the Brisbane Children’s Court Prosecutor, 4 years in the Police Service Legal Research Unit and 4 years in the Police Mounted Unit as a part-time member whilst working at the Legal Research Unit. Lesley was admitted as a Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2000. She has since been admitted to the High Court of Australia as a Barrister. Lesley resigned from the Police Service in 2006 and commenced work in private practice as a Solicitor having also been admitted as a Solicitor in 2004. Since working in private practice Lesley has mainly worked in the area of Family Law.
Gene Visini, Solicitor BA LLB
Gene Visini was admitted as a legal practitioner in the Supreme Court of Queensland in April 2009. Gene was born and raised in Gympie. He attended Gympie State High School and then moved to Brisbane to attend the University of Queensland where he obtained a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Arts. He returned to Gympie and worked as a Law Clerk at Power and Cartwright for just over two years before being admitted as a Solicitor. At Power and Cartwright, Gene has gained experience in all aspects of General Practice and works principally in the areas of Litigation, Succession and Estate Disputes, Commercial Disputes, Debt Recovery and Family Law.
Jack Cartwright, Consultant
Mr Cartwright was admitted as a Solicitor in April 1952 after being articled for nearly five years prior to that. He went into partnership with Frank Power in 1957 until Mr Power retired in 1959. Mr Cartwright was a sole practitioner from then until selling his practice in 1997 at which time he was appointed a Consultant.
